Nafplio, Argolida, Peloponnese

Argolida, Peloponnese

Nafplio

Greece's most elegant small town, two hours from Athens.

The feeling

Sophisticated and European. Bougainvillea and balconies, good wine bars, evening promenades. It feels like a wedding in a beautiful town rather than a beautiful landscape.

Neoclassical façades, marble streets, a Venetian fortress on the hill and a small castle in the harbour. Nafplio was Greece's first capital and still carries itself that way.

Best for

  • Elegant, urbane weddings
  • Guests who want to walk everywhere
  • Short trips and easy Athens arrivals
  • History and culture-minded groups
  • Weddings of 40–120 guests

Not ideal for

  • Couples who want great swimming at the doorstep
  • Remote, private, undiscovered atmospheres
  • Big beach-club energy

We'd rather you rule a place out here than three months from now.

Guest experience

What will guests actually do for three or four days?

  • Climbing the 900 steps to Palamidi fortress
  • Wine tasting in the Nemea vineyards
  • Epidaurus theatre, ideally for a summer performance
  • Mycenae for the archaeology
  • Evening drinks in Syntagma Square
  • Day trip to the beaches at Tolo and Karathona
